Places to Stay near Barford Lakes

There are various accommodation options which are listed below. Prices were correct as at March 2007 - and are stated as a guideline only. They may vary so please contact the accommodation provider direct to confirm prices and check availability.

Please note that if you are using the Barford Lakes complex for several days it is also possible to store your gear on-site at Barford to make travelling easier (and some accommodation listed below do not have safe off-road parking) - please contact us for details.

Some of the accommodation is in Wymondham which for your reference is a small market town (it has one main street!) and is 10 minutes from Barford Lakes (15 mins from Railway Lakes). It boasts many pubs (6 within easy reach), a snooker club, various takeaways and a sit down Chinese, 2 Thai restaurants, an Indian restaurant and a reasonably priced al a carte restaurant. By the way - the chicken burgers from Singtongs Burger Bar on Back Lane are divine and definitely worth a try!!

This grade 2 listed Public House is based in the popular market town of Wymondham, just 10 minutes by car away from Barford Lakes. In 2006 the Cross Keys had four spacious rooms available, and offered a cooked breakfast which was included in the price. New Owners for 2007 - telephone for bookings.

All rooms (except the single) have a shower and basin. All rooms have shared toilet. Although there is no off road parking, tackle can be stored securely in the cellar.

A 14th Century public house in the market town of Wymondham, 'The Green Dragon' is just 10 minutes from Barford Lakes. Full of character and history, there is a small cosy bar with open fire and evening meals are also available.

The first three rooms have independent access, whilst the newly converted Family Room and Double Room are in the oldest part of the pub and access is through the pub itself (doors locked at 11:30pm). Limited off-road parking.

The Ugly Bugg Inn, High House Farm Lane, Colton, NR9 5DG

Located in the next village to Barford Lakes and 5 minutes away, the pub was recently took over in 2007. The new owners are very pleasant and the accommodation provided is crisp and clean (as can be seen on the Gallery of their website). There is a terrace at the back, along with nice lawns and a small pond with some very tame fish! They have a twin room, a twin/double room and 2 rooms with double beds and 2 single beds in. more rooms to follow by the end of Summer 2007. A basic breakfast is included (cereal and toast) and a Full English can be prepared for an additional £5.

Prices per room: Single, £40. Double/Twin, £60, Treble rooms plus £25.

The Bridge Inn Pub, Lenwade, Norwich, NR9 5SE

This 17th century roadside inn is a place of wide appeal, offering a warm welcome, a civilised, relaxed ambience, a fine range of drinks, outstanding food and comfortable accommodation. The pub is located 10 - 15 mins from Barford Lakes. It also has a 300 yard stretch of the River Wensum.

They have four rooms (1 double, 2 twins and a family room with 2 double beds and a single. This pub can cater for about 10 anglers with the use of additional z-beds.

Prices per person: Single £27.50 and for Doubles and Twins £25 per person. Cost includes cooked breakfast.


Hill House Hotel, 10 Church Street, Wymondham, NR18 0PH (formally the Abbey Hotel)

Recently refurbished in 2007 this hotel is in a quiet spot opposite the Ancient 16th Century Abbey but a stone's throw from the centre of town (which is 10 mins from Barford). The hotel has a mix of 16th and 19th Century architecture and all rooms have a beverage tray, hairdryer, plasma TV, Broadband access and telephones. They also have a carvery restaurant (which is £4.95 mid-week!) and a coffee shop. All rooms are en-suite and non-smoking.

They have 4 Twin rooms, 15 Doubles, 5 Superior Doubles, 3 Singles and 2 Family rooms with a double and single bed. No off road parking though - but tackle can be stored at Barford by arrangement.

Prices per room: Double/ Twin for 2 £60, Double/Twin - single £50, Single £40, Superior for 2 £80 and Superior - single £60. Breakfast, if required is an additional £7.50 per person.

Next to the A47 it is an easy 20 minute drive to Barford Lakes. There is a pub next door and this hotel has more twin room options than the Travel Inn above.

This must be the cheapest option if staying for the week. Caister is a 30 minute easy drive from Barford Lakes. Contact them direct for prices as these vary throughout the season but for a 6/7 berth 2 bedroom caraven for a week in May is £125 and an 8 berth 3 bedroom van is £145. Linen is £5 per bed and they also have some 1 bedroom chalets for the same prices. Lots of facilities on site and Caister has a lovely sandy beach - also very close to Great Yarmouth.
