Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 31st October 2006 09:00AM

On a day when the carp didnt feed as readily as they usually do, Paul Manthorpe came good with an excellent net of Roach, Rudd  and a few skimmers to clinch the Trev Keyzor Match Group club match.

Fishing just 5m out on the pole using maggots as feed and hookbaits Paul bagged a fish a chuck for the full 5 hours, taking some 'proper' roach and rudd.

Below are some photos from this week's Silver Match which saw two living legends pegged next door to each other!  Jim Randel on peg 8 pipped four times world champion Bob Nudd on peg 7 for first place with 43lb 10ozs to Bob's 42lb 4ozs.  Jim fished 12 metres out on the bottom with groundbait fishing double caster and double maggot on the hook.  Bob had a similar attack but fed more chopped worm.  Paul Ashford was 3rd on peg 31 with 36lb 10ozs fishing 4 metres to hand about 2' deep fishing single red maggot on the hook whilst constantly loose feeding maggots over the top.

Pleasure lake bagging

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 19th October 2006 09:00AM

Whilst most anglers are coming to the pleasure lake to catch one of the many carp in the lake, one or two anglers are spoiling themselves by having a day catching the silver fish that reside in the lake. Mr T Allen had an excellent day on peg 6 on the pleasure lake, catching Roach, Rudd and a few (including this specimen) Perch.  Fishing on the pole up in the water with white maggots on the hook Mr Allen had a great day and we've seen him a few times after this shot was taken, having similar days on the pleasure lake.

Training Session on the Top Lake

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 7th October 2006 09:00AM

Nathan Surplice aged 10 and Louis Harrison 13, booked up with our resident coach Daniel Brydon for a couple of hours fishing on the Top lake. Both the lads had been fishing a couple of times before, but it is essential that newcomers to angling get a basic knowledge of;

 PLUMBING THE DEPTH:

PLAYING FISH;

HANDLING AND HOLDING FISH FOR PHOTOGRAPHS;

Also with the short training session its was vital that the lads kept feeding - armed with maggots, pellets and sweetcorn, plenty of roach, rudd and carp were willing to take the double maggot hookbaits.

Daniel would like to thank Nathan, Loius and their uncle Steve Harrison for bringing them along, the Lads have done very well as the pictures show, and we look forward to seeing them on the bank again.

Apparently when Nathan and Louis got home, their Grandad was very impressed with the boys as he had never caught a fish as big, despite many years fishing.

Silver Fish Matches Off To a Flier!!

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 4th October 2006 09:00AM

The first silver fish match of the year attracted a quality field of 23 anglers anticipating a good days sport on the pleasure lake.

With Carp totally out of the equation roach, rudd and skimmers were the main targets. It soon became apparent that on the day Skimmers and Bream were going to be needed to win as on peg 8 Tony Anderson was soon into them after only 30mins into the match.

In a Match where the top 6 all topped 30lb it was the one who could get the bream to stay in their peg for the longest, and Tony managed to do this by cupping Barford 4mm Pellet @ 13m on the pole. Using double red maggot, caster and worm on the hook he netted approx 30 skimmers/bream to 5lb for a total weight of 65lb 15oz

In the chasing pack our shop manager Daniel Brydon managed to outscore 4x world champion Bob Nudd on the next peg by a clear 10lb. Netting 40lb 4oz Daniel, who has not fished much recently fed groundbait lined with plenty of caster and chopped worm @ 13m using maggots and worm as hookbaits. Daniel managed a more mixed bag with some quality rudd and roach as well as Skimmers and 2 bream.
