Chris Farnan (age 14), from Thuxton has taken the lake record on Top Lake with a superb 16lb 9oz Mirror Carp.  This top quality fish was caught on Peg 6 in the margins with corn as hookbait and loose feeding maggots and corn.

Nigel Ludbrook travelled from Leiston in Suffolk to fish the Top Lake on Bank Holiday Monday and was rewarded with a great catch of some 242lb of fish.  This impressive haul included 28 Carp ranging from 4lb to 12lb and two nice 6lb Tench. Fishing on the bottom in the margins all the fish were caught on sweetcorn whilst feeding Barford Lakes Pellet.

Advice to anglers at the moment - fish at the end of your rod tip, plumb your depth so you know you're fishing on the bottom and start off with two handfuls of pellet and a couple of free offerings of your hookbait.  Top up with the feed every good bite and definitely every fish.  Also every now and again if your not getting bites - check to make sure you have the bait still on (our crafty carp may nick off with it without you realising!) - remember - no bites - no bait!!

Graham Smith recently moved to Lowestoft from East London and was taken for a day’s fishing by some friends to Barford Lakes.   He was told there were some large Carp, with which he took with a pinch of salt. That was until he landed this 15lb Common which was a personal best.  Mr Smith fished on peg 31 and caught on sweet corn, float fished just off the bottom a rod length out.  It caused quite a stir among the other four who have been going there for some time as their best was a 13lb Mirror, there were some calls of beginner’s luck. In all he caught three of 10lb and the 15lb.

Mr Smith commented “Thank you for a great day’s fishing…and as Arnold said “I’ll be back” Next time I’ll bring my son who has just started fishing”.

Ed Paul caught this lovely common carp on peg 11 of the Pleasure Lake.  He caught it in his margin on sweetcorn whilst feeding Barford pellet every 2 - 3 minutes.

Proving that feeding is the key to catching fish at Barford.  Litltle often feeding with pellet will ensure you keep the carp coming into your peg.

The pictures below are of our Wednesday venue regular Ray (Hingham) and his Grandson Robert Cromack.  They had a great session and had numerous carp to 14lb.  All were caught on Barford paste (soaked 6mm pellet) whilst feeding often with the same 6mm pellet.  All fish were taken from the Pleasure lake on peg 6 and 7 under the watchful eye of our bank steward John Lake.

Note on one of the photos that John has covered the eye of the carp - good tip - when the fish is out of the water and if it flaps about, try covering the eye of the carp - fish are much calmer in darkness.  Always ensure when you take photos of your catch that they are over the unhooking mat and you hold them as low as possible - fish do tend to flip and it is much better if they are held close to the ground.
