Training Session on the Pleasure Lake

Our resident coach Daniel Brydon has seen bookings for Training/Refresher lessons increase over the last few months as more and more people are either entering into fishing for the first time, or have had such a long break from fishing a refresher session has been needed to get back 'in tune' with angling.

The latest people to have a go were mother and son Karen and Che.  After some great feedback from website forums, Karen gave me a call to book up with a 2 hour training session for herself and son Che.

As Karen had purchased some tackle beforehand, we had a tackle check, and after a few minor alterations, we got fishing.

Fishing on the pleasure lake on a warm day, it soon became apparent that there were lots of fish in the area, loose-feeding heavily with maggots and 4mm barford pellets we were soon catching smaller roach and rudd up in the water on a basic 3aaa waggler rigs fished around 3-4ft deep, size 14 hook and 2 or 3 maggots on the hook.

After about 1 hour we started seeing signs of bigger fish in the area (Lots and lots of bubbles) a change of plan was needed. This saw us alter the rigs used to fish on the bottom with larger baits such as sweetcorn.

After only 20mins Che was into the first larger fish of the day, after a very hard and scrappy fight, up came a quality mirror carp and he was safely in the net. Weighing in between 6-8lb this was easily Che’s best fish and as you can see by the pictures, he was well pleased with the resulting fish.

It was then Karens turn, after catching a few small fish (see pics) we also changed tactics and started on the bottom with corn. And as a result, two large Tench (5lb +) came as a great end to a very successful and informative day.
