Winter League Results

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 28th March 2007 09:00AM

In the final round of the popular series of matches 70 anglers braved  the ‘Great’ British weather as it played a part in proceedings and made fishing productive but difficult, with winds gusting all day there were several poles either broken or blown in.

Individually on the day, newcomer to match fishing Nathan Bowles who was guesting for Barford Dream Team took the honours. Fishing renowned peg 7 on the match lake Nathan opted for a pole approach initially @ 10m, heavily loosefeeding Barford 6mm pellets and using paste on the hook. It wasn’t long however that the wind was playing havoc with presentation, Nathan decided to switch to a waggler rig fished on the same line as on the pole. This done the trick and he put 98lb 4oz on the scales to beat his team mate Glen Mason into 2nd place who bagged 91lb 1oz from unfancied peg 5 on the Pleasure lake.

Daiwa Angling Direct took top team on the day with 17points but left it far too late to overcome the consistent team VDE.

Team VDE took the league honours with a total of 107 points, and their consistency throughout the league proved to be the winner, as Sensas Big Hits and Barford Gold were gaining on them in the later rounds of the league.

The league’s top Individual was VDE angler Stewart Bracey he scored a outstanding total of 9 points beating his team mate Mark Sawyer and Barford Gold’s Glen Burden who both scored 16 points, (Glen coming second on weight).

RNLI Charity Match Results

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 27th March 2007 09:00AM

On Sunday 25th March 60 anglers turned in to fish Barford Match, Pleasure, Top and at Colton. The weather turned for the better but unfortunately in the few day previous to the match conditions were abismal, and this affeted the fishing as the lakes were still very cold.

In form Warren Martin (Sensas Barford Tackle) made it a double winning weekend, fishing the Pellet Waggler on peg 23 on the match lake, Warren had between 24 -26 carp for 129lb-12oz using banded Barford 6mm pellet feeding the same @ around 20m.

Second placed Nathan Watson fished peg 23 on the match lake with very similar tactics but he did have a couple of fish on the pole for 78lb 6oz

Specimen 'Roach'

Posted by: Sarah Thomson, 6th March 2007 09:00AM

Pleaure angler Ian Taylor (Norwich) came down for a pleasure session on the match lake, after bagging a few carp on his pole@ 6m to sweetcorn hookbaits, Ian had a surprise! At first he thought it was one of the smaller crucians in the lake but once it was in the net he realise this was a special fish;

Ian Taylor with his 4lb 4oz Roach

Unfotunately i didn't get to see the fish, as Ian put it back straight away (good fish handling!). I would like your opinions on whether or not you think the fish is a roach and if it is, at 4lb 4oz this is a serious fish! I think it may be a Roach/Skimmer hybrid click here to send me your views.
